The 16A Warriors began this ASA National Qualifier with a 3-0 victory over the Pleasant Valley Premiere from Arizona.
Ali Davenport pitched a very strong shutout, keeping the strong Arizona hitters off guard with great pitch selections and locations.
Bo Nuanez hit a 2-run Home Run over the fence to go with an earlier ground-rule double that had bounced under the fence. Dana Kallhoff contributed to the hitting effort with a double and Lindsay Witty and Brittany Joseph each contributed timely singles.
Saturday: 1st Game: Warriors vs Arizona Pleasant Valley Premiere
3-0 Warriors
Worrisome moment as Ray-Ray gets hit by a pitch!
Saturday: 2nd Game: Warriors vs Lil Saints (2002 ASA 4th Place 16A National Finisher)
Lil Saints 12-6
The Warriors committed 6 errors and lost 12-6. Sophia Johnson was on the mound and faced some very tough hitters from the Lil Saints. Bo Nuanez continued her power hitting with another over the fence Home Run and Jennifer Fligg hit her first ever over the fence Home Run as well. A 2nd inning rally with 5 singles got the Warriors back into the game, but the errors came back to bite them and that was too much to overcome.
Jennifer Fligg hits one over the fence!
Saturday 8:30pm: 3rd Game: Warriors against the Pride from Arizona
Pride wins 2-0
A tremendous pitchers duel with Courtney Kelley battling the Pride Ace who was throwing the best rise ball we've seen all year. The Warriors managed only two hits, by Rachel Hancock and Brittany Joseph. The Warriors bow out at 1-2, but a very successful tournament considering the injuries to key people and our first good look at National-level pitching. Good Tournament Girls and way to respond to new positions and battling the injury bug!
