ARVADA — Two 2002 Lady Warrior Summer players contributed to Monarch's upset of Colorado's top-ranked girls softball team in Class 5A with a 1-0 win over Arvada West on Saturday to win the District 2 Tournament championship.

Stacie LaRocque (2002 LW 16A) walked with two outs in the fourth and then scored on Courtney Kelley's (2002 LW 14A) triple to left center for the only score of the game.

Breeann DiCarlo struck out six and walked one while pitching a complete-game five-hitter to earn her seventh shutout of the season.

"Breeann just kept them off-balance all day," said Monarch coach Dan Felknor. "She's for real. She was just making great pitches.

"Obviously it's the biggest win in school history for our program."

Monarch (12-8) advanced to its first-ever trip to regionals, which begin Thursday at Olympic Park in Aurora.

Next Game: Monarch (13-7) vs. Fruita Monument (14-6), 10 a.m. Thursday 10/18.
